How-To

  • How do I activate the Voice Assistant on Nothing Ear?

The default control settings do not include waking up the Voice Assistant. To enable it, enter the Control section in the Nothing X app, choose either the left or right ear, and set the "Double pinch and hold gesture". Once enabled, the Voice Assistant can be activated on demand.

For additional features, please download the Nothing X App from Google Play or the iOS App Store.

  • How do I trigger gesture controls on Nothing Ear?

Accurately press the area located at the side of the earbud. The exact location is also shown in the instruction manual.

Note: The area is very sensitive so only press when you want to trigger a function to avoid false triggering or misinterpretation of operations.

  • How do calls work when Dual Connection is enabled?

If neither device A & B are in a call, Nothing Ear will play call audio from the device that first receives an incoming call.
If device A has a call in progress, and you receive an incoming call on device B, Nothing Ear will play the ringtone at the same time.
If device A hangs up, Nothing Ear will switch the call audio to device B.

If you have any further questions about Dual Connection, please check the description on nothing.tech, or contact Nothing Customer Service.

  • How does audio output work for Nothing Ear when Dual Connection is enabled?

When no audio (music, video, or call) is running on the two connected devices:
Nothing Ear will play audio from the first device receiving the incoming call/making an outgoing call, or will play audio from the first device running music or video playback.

When only device A is running music or video playback:
    1) Nothing Ear will switch to device B if there is an incoming call or if device B is making an outgoing call. Calls take priority with Dual Connection.
Once the call on device B ends, Nothing Ear will resume the music/video playback from device A.
    2) When device B starts playing music or video playback, Nothing Ear will play audio from the first device running music or video service.

  • How do gesture controls work when Dual Connection is enabled?

Gesture controls will take effect on the device running the audio (music, video, or call). When no audio is running on the connected devices, it will take effect on the most recently connected device/the most recent device to run audio.

  • How does Dual Connection work?

    Re-connection:
    1. If Nothing Ear has been paired with multiple devices, the earbuds will automatically connect to the device with the most recent connection when the charging case lid opens.
    2. If Nothing Ear reconnects by returning to the Bluetooth connection range, it will automatically connect to the device with the most recent connection.

    Connection Priority:
    1. When no audio (music, video, or call) is running on the two connected devices A & B, Nothing Ear can be manually connected to device C to play audio.
    2. When audio is running on only one device out of device A and device B, Nothing Ear can replace the one without audio and manually connect to device C to play audio.
    3. If device A or B is on a call, Nothing Ear cannot set up a new connection with a third device.

  • How do I reset Nothing Ear?

Place both earbuds into the charging case and leave the case open. Press and hold the function button on the charging case for 10 seconds. The reset is complete when the red light flashes three times.

  • How do I adjust the volume on Nothing Ear?

You can adjust the volume directly on your phone or use the "Pinch and hold" gesture in the Nothing X app to control the earbud volume.
Pinch and hold for 1 second, adjust the volume (once triggered in the Pinch and hold state, the volume changes by one bar every 0.9 S, and stops rising when the Pinch control is released).

  • How do I switch between the noise cancellation modes?

In the state of non-incoming calls: Pinch and hold for 1 second to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode.

You can also switch to different noise cancellation modes in the Nothing X app.

  • How to use the LDAC feature?

LDAC high-definition audio can be likened to a "highway" between the phone and headphones, supporting streaming rates of 990kbps and a sample rate of 96kHz with a bit depth of 24-bit. The high transmission bit rate allows high-resolution audio files to be less compressed, retaining more music details and noticeably improving sound quality.
*This high-definition audio requires support from the phone and the selected codec needs to be activated on the device to take effect.

For Android phones, first check if LDAC is enabled by default on your phone. If not, go to [Settings – Developer Options] to see if LDAC is supported. If your phone supports it, activate the phone's LDAC and make sure high-definition encoding is turned on in the Nothing X app, thus enabling LDAC high-definition audio encodinг.
*To ensure smooth playback of LDAC high-definition audio, it is recommended that when using this feature, 1) the default LDAC playback quality in the developer options is set to adaptive; 2) if the phone chooses a higher quality audio stream, it is advised to turn off dual connection functionality to ensure there is enough bandwidth for the LDAC high-definition stream.
*Since iOS devices only support the AAC Bluetooth high-quality audio codec, for the time being, they cannot support other high-quality audio codecs.

  • How do I use the LHDC feature?

LHDC 5.0 can be understood as the "highway" between your phone and earbuds. It supports 24 bit/192 kHz high-resolution audio streaming transmission. The transmission rate can reach up to 1 Mbps, which is about 4 times that of the traditional SBC encoder (328Kbps). The high-resolution audio file will not be over-compressed, so more music details can be retained, and the sound quality will be significantly improved.
*High-quality audio settings need to be supported by the phone and the selected codec must be enabled on the phone to take effect.

For Nothing phones, the LHDC Bluetooth audio codec function is turned on by default. After the user connects the headset using Nothing OS, LHDC high-quality Bluetooth audio transmission is enabled by default. Users can operate the headset in the Nothing X app to turn on or off LHDC audio encoding.
For non-Nothing Android phones, you can check whether the phone supports LHDC in the Bluetooth Audio Codec settings of the phone. If the phone supports it, turn on the phone's LHDC in the settings and confirm that LHDC is checked in the HD encoding options of the Nothing X app. LHDC high-quality Bluetooth audio transmission will be turned on.
*To ensure smooth playback of LHDC high-definition audio, it is recommended to turn off the Dual Connection function when using this function to ensure sufficient bandwidth for the LHDC high-definition stream.
*Since iOS devices only support the AAC Bluetooth codec, other high-quality audio codecs are not currently supported.
