  • What can the TALK button on the Ear (3) charging case be used for?

    Non-call scenarios:
    1. Nothing OS with Essential Space installed: pressing and holding the TALK button for more than 500ms activates the Essential Space feature; Super Mic will show a yellow light.
    2. Non-Nothing OS devices: pressing and holding the TALK button for more than 500ms activates the Voice Assistant; Super Mic will show a green light.

Note that the function can also be customised to no action via the Nothing X app.

    Call scenarios:
Pressing and holding or double-clicking to lock the TALK button allows calls through Super Mic, which has a higher priority than non-call functions.
Releasing the long-press gesture or single-clicking unlocks the TALK button , taking you back to the earbud mic.

  • How do I activate the Voice Assistant on Ear (3)?

Voice Assistant is disabled by default. To enable it, enter the Control section in the Nothing X app, choose either the left or right ear, and then double-pinch and hold. Once enabled, the Voice Assistant can be activated on demand.

For additional features, please download the Nothing X app from Google Play or the iOS App Store.

  • How do I trigger control gestures on Ear (3)?

Press the area located at the side of the earbud. The exact location is also shown in the instruction manual.

Note: The control point is very sensitive so only press when you want to trigger a function to avoid false triggering.

  • How does Ear (3) handle incoming calls when connected to two phones?

    1. When the earbuds are connected to two devices, and neither device is in a call state, the earbuds will output the ringing sound from the device that's receiving the call.

    2. When the earbuds are connected to two devices, and one of the devices is already in a call, the earbuds will play the incoming call alert and the earbud buttons will prioritise controlling the device that's receiving the call. If the earbuds end the current call, the audio channel will switch to the other device that's receiving the call.

Note: Please refer to the product instructions on the official Nothing website or get in touch with our Customer Support.

  • How does audio output work for Ear (3) when Dual Connection is enabled?

    1. When the earbuds are connected to two devices, and both mobile devices are in an idle state:
    a) The earbuds will output the sound to the phone that's receiving an incoming call or notification.
    b) If one device starts playing music first, the earbuds will output the sound to the corresponding phone.

    2. When the earbuds are connected to two devices, and only one device is in the music-playing state:
    a) Incoming or outgoing calls on the device that is not playing music will mute the current music on the earbuds (without pausing) and switch to the sound of the incoming or outgoing device. After the call is ended, it will switch back to the connected device playing music.
    b) If the device not playing music starts playing music, there will be no sound-channel switching. Both devices will remain in the playing state and the device that started playing music later will be in a muted state.

  • How do I know which device is controlled by gesture controls on Ear (3) when it's connected to two phones?

Gesture controls will work on the device running the audio (music, video or call). When no audio is running on the connected devices, it will take effect on the most recently connected device / the most recent device to run audio.

  • How do I use Super Mic when Dual Connection is enabled?

    1. If you have Dual Connection enabled and want to use Super Mic, press and hold the TALK button to disconnect the background connection in the Dual Connection, then connect to Super Mic.
    2. When both earbuds are placed in the charging case and the lid is closed, the Super Mic connection will be automatically cleared. Upon reopening, the device will not reconnect to Super Mic by default but will automatically reconnect the two most recent devices.
    3. In non-call scenarios, you can also manually initiate a connection to the earbuds from device B, which will automatically disconnect Super Mic.

  • How do I manage Dual Connection and connection priority on Ear (3)?

    1. Reconnection with lid open:
    a) If the earbuds are connected to less than two devices, with Dual Connection enabled and the earbuds are powered on, they will attempt to reconnect to two most recently connected devices. If Dual Connection is enabled for the first time with no previous reconnection records, the earbuds will maintain a single-device connection. (In single-connection mode, the earbuds will not automatically enter pairing mode; pairing a new device requires a manual long-press of the button.) If reconnection to other devices fails, the earbuds will stay connected to a single device and will not enter pairing mode.
    b) If the earbuds and the terminal device exceed the connection range and then return within range, the earbuds will only reconnect to the phone that was disconnected due to distance.
    c) Reconnection will not be triggered when the earbuds are in a call or music state.
    d) If the earbuds are in a reconnection state and a call or music scenario occurs, the earbuds will pause reconnection for 5 seconds. If the call or music ends within the reconnection timeout period, the earbuds will resume the paused reconnection until the timeout. After the reconnection timeout, the connection can only be initiated from the device end.

    2. Connection priority:
When the earbuds are in Dual Connection mode, connection priority follows these principles:
    a) If neither of the two phones is in a music state, the earbuds will disconnect from the first connected phone and connect to the device initiating the snatch.
    b) When the earbuds enter pairing mode and are already connected to two devices, they will disconnect from one of the devices to be searchable and connectable.
    c) If the earbuds are already connected to two devices, and a third device with a connection record initiates a snatch, the earbuds will disconnect from one of the devices and connect to the third device.

    Tips:
    Music state:
    1. If one of the two phones is in a music state, the earbuds will disconnect from the phone that is not in the music state and connect to the device initiating the snatch.
    2. If both phones are in a music state, the earbuds will disconnect from the phone whose music is not outputting through the earbuds (i.e., disconnect the device in the muted music state) and connect to the device initiating the snatch.

    Call state:
    1. If any phone is in a call state, connection snatch won't occur.

*Dual Connection supports connection to two devices via classic Bluetooth (as shown in the Bluetooth settings of your devices). However, the Nothing X app can only connect to one device at a time. If you need to switch the Nothing X app to another device, please disconnect it from the current device first.

    3. When pressing the charging case TALK button in a Dual Connection scenario:
    a) If one of the dual-connected devices is a Nothing phone with Essential Space installed, pressing the TALK button will prioritise disconnecting the non-Nothing phone, connect the charging case Super Mic Bluetooth, and activate Essential Space. If the Nothing phone does not have Essential Space installed, press the TALK button as you would a non-Nothing phone.
    b) If both connected devices are non-Nothing phones, pressing the TALK button treats Super Mic as a third device and follows the above priority connection logic. This will activate the phone’s Voice Assistant.

  • How do I reset Ear (3)?

Place both earbuds into the charging case and leave the case open. Press and hold the function button on the charging case for 10 seconds. The reset is complete when the red light flashes three times, followed by a flashing white light.

  • How do I adjust the volume on Ear (3)?

To control the earbud volume, you can adjust the volume directly on your phone or use the 'Pinch and hold' gesture in the Nothing X app.
Pinch and hold for 1 second, and then adjust the volume. Once you've triggered 'Pinch and hold', the volume changes by one bar every 0.9 S, and stops rising when the pinch control is released.

  • How do I switch between noise cancellation modes?

Hold the force sensor for 1 second to switch between Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode.
You can also switch between noise cancellation modes in the Nothing X app.

  • How do I operate the control functions on Ear (3)?

    Pinch
    - Play / pause
    - Answer / end call

    Double pinch
    - Next track
    - Reject call

    Triple pinch
    - Previous track

    Hold
    - Noise cancellation / Transparency

    Pinch and hold
    - Volume up / volume down

*Please set up the functionality in the Nothing X app.

  • How do I use the LDAC feature?

LDAC high-definition audio can be understood as a highway between your phone and earbuds, supporting 24-bit depth, 96 kHz sampling rate and a 990 kbps streaming rate. The high transmission bitrate ensures that high-resolution audio files are not excessively compressed, retaining more audio details and significantly enhancing sound quality.

Note: this high-definition audio requires a phone, with selected codec enabled.

    For Android phones:
    1. Ensure your phone supports LDAC by checking if it is enabled by default. If not, go to Settings > Developer options to check for LDAC support.
    2. If your phone supports LDAC, enable it in the settings.
    3. Connect the earbuds to the Nothing X app. In the app, go to Device settings. Enable high-quality audio to activate LDAC high-definition audio encoding.

    Tips for optimal LDAC performance:
    1. To ensure smooth playback, set LDAC playback quality to default in the phone's developer options.
    2. If opting for higher-quality audio bitrate, we recommend disabling the Dual Connection feature to ensure sufficient bandwidth for LDAC high-quality streaming.

*Note: iOS devices only support the AAC high-quality audio codec over Bluetooth; other high-quality audio codecs like LDAC are unsupported.
